ESLA
Group 'AL' Bi-Mulit 3-Way lantern.
Another variant of the many
directional lanterns produced by ESLA, this 3-way lantern could be used with
40w-200w tungsten lamps and was primarily designed
for use at T-junctions on minor roads. Construction of the lantern body is of
cast iron, with a brass lampholder and brass stem to
which the lampholder is fixed. Thin-walled mirrored
glass is bonded to the underside of the lantern in weather-proof cement to provide the reflective light surface.
As with all ESLAs the lamp can be focused by adjusting
the position of the brass stem to which the lampholder
is attached.
The three-way ESLA is seen in acquired condition,
still attached to its home-made wall bracket.
This example came
via fellow collector Bob Cookson, who rescued it from
Lewes in East Sussex; aside of a couple of chipped
mirrors that can be easily replaced the lantern is in
excellent
condition.
