I came by this unusual survivor on a drive about Wolverhampton in August 2009. Sited on private property, this tapered lamppost is a sectionalised column made by Poles Limited of Birmingham, and was sold as part of their Adastra Poles Range. Made from galvansied steel, the coned sections simply fitted into one another, until the finally assembled column reached its desired height, and 'topped out' with a suitable lantern. The Adastra range came in various lengths and designs for different applications including supporting overhead lines.
The top cone on this column had been fitted with this spigot cap for supporting a post top lantern, in this case a Revo Solumbra.
Covered in layers of peeling paint, the Poles Adastra badge on the column's inspection door. Copyright(c) 2005 -2010 Claire Pendrous. All rights reserved.
